Each artist grapples with the emotions and inner lives of animals -- and how their universes intersect with the humans they lean on for their existence or who have left them to their own devices at dog parties and in dystopic wastelands. These animals judge, gorge, bicker and play in these fantastical landscapes.

The 2024 WOMEN RISING asked Bay Area female-identifying and non-binary artists to submit work that reflects on women’s rights around the world: in many places their erosion and decline as a result of governmental restrictions, war, climate change, immigration, racism and domestic violence. As with all dark things, there are also opposite forces at work resulting in positive change and illumination of movements underway both domestically and internationally, so we encouraged artists to shed light on those forces and needs.
I will be showing Private Jet, a series of collages with the theme of personal escape.
This exhibition invited artists from the SF Bay Area to submit a piece of work related to the theme of HOME, designed to invite works from local artists that address a multitude of issues including the social and physical constructs of housing, immigration, identity and the histories of urban and land development. The theme is also intended to explore what the concept of “HOME” and what it provokes and inspires in each of us; be it emotional, sensory or physical.
In a time when there are wars and atrocities happening on multiple continents, along with environmental cataclysms that we as humans have caused and are now trying to rectify and reverse, we look to a concept–HOME– that relates to all species on earth. We are looking for work that examines how our social constructs have evolved to define its meaning in relation to our own personal histories. This open call for art also looks to San Francisco’s deep cultural communities, its place as a sanctuary city for many, and a refuge for those that find their way here.
About the show:
Delving into the concept of a new species emerging from the remnants of humanity, Fuzz E Grant employs found materials such as plastic containers, paper, and metal to fashion a distinctive sculptural breed. Each Nomeba possesses a unique narrative and individuality, fostering a deeper connection between humans and the new species.
TINY work from over 220 local artists!
